Crafting: Leather Tote Bag

The problem (if I can call it that) with working for a company that is all about bags, is that I find myself growing bored of my collection pretty quickly. I fall in love with a design, declare it the perfect bag and make it, and then a few months later find myself indifferent towards it and so the entire process starts again.

This simple leather tote bag came about after realising that I didn't own a plain black bag big enough for me to chuck my day to day essentials in, as well as the (just as essential) lunchbox, scarf and book of the moment too. It was really quick and easy to make up; just two rectangles of fabric with an added deep flat bottom for space and then another piece of leather at the front stitched down the middle to create two exterior pockets.

The handles are coming soon at work, and definitely win my vote for classic simplicity. I then added blue ticking stripe fabric for the lining, and because I can never quite keep things plain and simple, used some of that to bind the two front pockets as well.

So for the moment, this is my new favourite bag. Let's see how long this one lasts :)

  1. This is lovely! I love the lining over the pocket edge, it looks so simple and clean. Where do you buy your leather handles from? I'm always struggling to find nice plain flat ones like that!
