my filofax week: july round up

it's been a very "to-do" list based month for me- i don't know if it's just me but it always feels like that after a holiday.
luckily i also got to spend time with family (if only fleetingly) when we travelled up to leicester for my sister's graduation. it was so good to see everyone, and i was definitely a teary eyed proud big sister!

as for the filofax itself, i'm thinking of switching to 'week on one page with notes' diary inserts for next year- if you have any experience with them please leave me a comment- did they work for you? i've also found myself browsing on ebay for other binders, very naughty! i blame all the back to school adverts everywhere at the moment, new stationery was always the best part of the new school year :)

nutella ice cream

yes, this recipe is as mouth-wateringly good as it sounds.
and yes, it's pretty much nutritionally devoid.

but it's nutella. and ice cream. together.
oh, and you don't need an ice cream maker.

you're welcome :)

watermelon nails

is there a better way to paint your nails in this heatwave than to pay tribute to yummy fruit?! i don't think so...
i'm such a fruit addict in the summer, and as watermelon is my current favourite i thought i'd try it in nail art form.

these were really easy to do but took a lot of time to dry in between coats- don't be tempted to rush them like i did coz you'll end up with a smudgy gloopy mess!

i remember the very first nail art i attempted (pre-blog!) was strawberries; colourful fruit definitely translates well into nail art :)
if you have any fruit themed nail art then let me know, i'm trying to think of what i can try next...

easy peasy biscuits

whilst in sardinia, we were spoilt with the most amazing food from j's mum. once upon a time i'd have thought cooking would be tricky out there, what with her being vegetarian and me being coeliac, but i don't think i've ever eaten so well (and all with their own home grown food!).

one evening dessert was a freshly made apricot cheesecake, and it was bloody delicious. i asked for the recipe as the base had turned out particularly well- if not a little crispy- and i thought it could work really well for biscuits.

i always overlook ground almonds but i really shouldn't; they are amazing in gluten free baking and with a little hint of vanilla these biscuits turned out seriously yummy. enjoy! :)

the amazings

a few weeks ago i received an email from the amazings, an online community offering dozens of crafty classes all taught by retired crafters. it's a brilliant idea and one i am already fond of; i worked for the north circular a few years ago and fell in love with their "knit by grannies" ethos.
there are tons of different classes to choose from including how to upcycle a man's shirt into a dress which is the class i was offered to try out.

even though i studied fashion design at uni, i tried to watch this video as a newbie- it was easy enough to get engrossed- and it kinda felt like being back at uni actually and i really warmed to the girls and their chats!

i know that the internet is full to the brim of free tutorials and snippets of how to make anything and everything, but there is something really special about this concept. there is nothing like seeing other people fuelled up and getting crafty to get you in the zone, and i had to pause the videos every now and then to scribble some ideas down (such good timing may i add- i was in fear of a dreaded creative slump!).

the class is split up into several videos which is great for said scribbling breaks, and i found them super easy to follow. you can tell that the elders teaching the classes really know their stuff, and personally this was the most appealing aspect for me- actually learning from someone- a human!- instead of just googling it (we've all done it!).

if this sounds like you're sort of thing, the lovely people at the amazings have given me a link with access to a free class |here| for all of you craft fiends out there, so there's no excuse not to give it a go :)
