the amazings

a few weeks ago i received an email from the amazings, an online community offering dozens of crafty classes all taught by retired crafters. it's a brilliant idea and one i am already fond of; i worked for the north circular a few years ago and fell in love with their "knit by grannies" ethos.
there are tons of different classes to choose from including how to upcycle a man's shirt into a dress which is the class i was offered to try out.

even though i studied fashion design at uni, i tried to watch this video as a newbie- it was easy enough to get engrossed- and it kinda felt like being back at uni actually and i really warmed to the girls and their chats!

i know that the internet is full to the brim of free tutorials and snippets of how to make anything and everything, but there is something really special about this concept. there is nothing like seeing other people fuelled up and getting crafty to get you in the zone, and i had to pause the videos every now and then to scribble some ideas down (such good timing may i add- i was in fear of a dreaded creative slump!).

the class is split up into several videos which is great for said scribbling breaks, and i found them super easy to follow. you can tell that the elders teaching the classes really know their stuff, and personally this was the most appealing aspect for me- actually learning from someone- a human!- instead of just googling it (we've all done it!).

if this sounds like you're sort of thing, the lovely people at the amazings have given me a link with access to a free class |here| for all of you craft fiends out there, so there's no excuse not to give it a go :)

  1. This is such a cool idea for a tutorial site! xx

i love reading your comments (but hate the blogger commenting system!) so if you'd like to chat you can find me on twitter @skye_pennant :)
