glitter gal holographic nail varnish

last week, the lovely sam tweeted about her little nail varnish shop asking if anyone would be interested in testing out some of the holographic varnishes. i have had the infamous gosh holographic varnish saved in my ebay wish list for what feels like years now, so i obviously jumped at the chance!
sam stocks 'glitter gal' nail varnishes which are an australian brand. the fact that sam is u.k. based is awesome, as whenever i did find a holographic nail varnish that i liked, it was always international.

anyway, onto the nail varnish. sam sent me the silver holo varnish, which i was super happy about as it's the one i've wanted to try for so long.

i've taken photos coat by coat, and these photos were taken in natural evening light.
as i was applying it, i actually found myself feeling dubious; i wasn't sure if it was going to look as amazing as i had hoped. however, 4 coats later (3 would have been plenty by the way, but i wanted the full on holo effect!) i was pretty mesmerised by it. it is so pretty. i literally couldn't stop grinning thinking that i finally had the perfect holographic nail varnish...and then i went and sat on the sofa in bright artificial light...

...and it looked like this! i thought these photos came out pretty well, but even they don't capture the full effect. it is honestly amaze. full on 3d holographic effect nail varnish.

i realise that i sound pretty over the top here, but i can't help it. anyone else who has ever lusted after the holographic nail varnish will understand, and i am totally in awe of glitter gal.
sam stocks so many different colours in her shop as well, and the swatches all look amazing. i particularly love the sound of "lizard belly".

i put the nail varnish on on monday night, and as i have been at work the last few days, i wasn't expecting it to last very well. i usually end up with huge chips no matter what nail varnish i use, but again, glitter gal have outdone themselves. 3 days later and i have 2 pretty small chips- a rarity for me and a big plus for the nail varnish.

basically, as i'm sure you can tell, i absolutely love this nail varnish. i'm impressed with the quality of it, the look of it, and am intrigued by the other products that glitter gal and sam have to offer.

sam currently sells just the holographic range of glitter gal varnishes, but priced at just £8.75, i'm sure she is going to do amazingly well with these and be able to expand to offer other ranges. you should definitely head over to her shop and she also blogs here
thank you sam for letting me test the varnish out, it's pretty much made my week and i really bloody love it :)

aztec nails

no.7 "minty fresh", models own "pray" and topshop nail art pen in white

i've only ever tried aztec nails once before, and that was almost a year ago when i first got my models own/wah nails pen!
i decided to try some spring coloured ones this time & i'm really chuffed with how they came out. i love that you can just do something different on every nail- perfect if you get bored easily.

thanks for all of the comments on the phone/charger holder and the nutella brownies, they both seemed to go down pretty well! don't forget to let me know if you try them :)

i also wanted to say a huge thank you again to all of my readers as today i hit 200 reader on gfc. i won't go on about it like i did on the big 100, but let's just say i think that you're all bloody amazing, and here's to a happy 2012 <3

diy phone/charger holder

this is one of the best diy's i've come across in so long. it was another one of those "how did i live without this?!" moments (i seem to get those a lot).
the tutorial can be found here and you should definitely head over to make it and love it for other awesome diy's. ashley blogs about everything diy related, from recipes, to home decor, to no-sew projects and i think it would be impossible for anyone to have a browse and not feel inspired!

so here is my version of the amazing phone & charger holder, made from a mouthwash bottle and some wrapping paper that i had stashed away. a practical and completely recycled project- i'm in love.

excuse the bad lighting in these photos by the way, have you ever stopped to notice what the lighting is like near your plug sockets?!

nutella brownies

recipe adapted from here
these came out really well, but definitely not gooey enough for my liking! i think next time i'd add a splash of milk and maybe cook them for 8-9 minutes instead.
i've been messing around with j's wacom tablet over the last few days, it's so much fun! i really like the idea of writing my tutorials/recipes this way, but was just a little apprehensive about how easy my handwriting is to read; i'd love to know what people think.

i've been signed off of work this week which has seriously dampened my spirits. i always find my health such a difficult thing to talk about, but i really thought i was making progress. if anyone has any suggestions on how i can occupy myself for a week whilst not leaving the flat then i'd be forever grateful! i'm not even supposed to be baking/making anything but i really don't think that is gonna happen.

i hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and let me know if you try the brownies :)

for you

a few cards that i've made recently; the middle one is for mothers day, and the other two are birthday cards for my awesome brother and his girlfriend.

i'm really enjoying making overly textured cards at the moment- i basically chuck as many different fabrics/paper/buttons etc. that i can find onto a card and then sew it all together!

so a few happy birthdays, and millions of love to my mum. i hope they all like their cards :)

nail art

one: eyeko "rain" & the body shop "starry night"
two: e.l.f "desert haze" & opi "absolutely alice"
three & four: eyeko "vintage" & vivo "101"

a few instagram snaps of my nails over the last few weeks.
they're all uber simple- i haven't been as inspired to spend an age on them like i used to. if anyone has any nail inspiration or ideas i'd love to get something more exciting going! saying that though, i love the simplicity and colour combination of that last two. they just work so well together and are a perfect pops of colour.
the attempt at triangle nail art didn't go too well; kudos to the lovely erin who has tons of different triangle styles that always look amaze!

patterns & tea

waistcoat:charity shop striped top:h&m jeans:fat face brogues:charity shop

as soon as i finish writing this post, i'm going to have to go and cut my fringe. i didn't realise quite how out of hand it was until i saw these photos. my poor little eyes are drowning in hair!

a bit of a mish mash today as i'm still feeling pretty rough; i've had to resign myself to another doctors trip next week, though i'm not really sure what miracle i'm expecting.
but anyway, comfort was the important thing today, and it was actually warm enough to have a little lie down on the beach without a coat on which was amazing.
i love this little waistcoat (despite j telling me that i look like a "weird hippy" in it) and the colours are just so bizarre that it just makes sense to clash it with another pattern.

well, it makes sense to me... and if anyone has noticed the extra pattern on my nails, i'll be blogging about those soon :)

i finally finished my first ever crochet piece.
i've decided that this will be the perfect blanket for when a cat comes along :)

just a little post tonight as i am absolutely cream crackered, but i hope that everyone is having a good week <3

i am hand-made: detachable pocket

*UPDATE: this is now available to buy as a pdf pattern - please click |here|*

here is one of the new pieces that i've made for the shop. after i posted about my tote bag diy the other day, i noticed a lot of people mentioned pockets and how they hate digging around at the bottom of their bags. so i sketched out a few ideas for this, and after trying it out yesterday i think it's actually a damn good idea (if i do say so myself!).

i have a few changes to make; mostly a few stitch details, and i've also worked out a better strap method that isn't so bulky.
there are three compartments- including one that fits an iphone perfectly and the extra pocket attached to the front. i tested it out with my essentials- phone, keys, lipbalm, pen & a mini notepad.
all you have to do is wrap the straps around the straps of your bag, and secure them in place with the button.

so what do you think? is this something that you can imagine using?
it's now in the shop under a made-to-order basis. if you are interested, just let me know in a comment, or pop me an email at

p.s. you can now also follow my blog through hello cotton here :)
