the key

at the weekend i finally sorted through all of my fabrics and managed to vaguely organise them.
i found the cut out pieces for this bag amongst it all- i think i cut them months and months ago to make a tote bag for work, but then this came into my life and i got sidetracked.

anyway, i decided to sketch out this key as a motif for it and then embroidered it on using chain stitch. the key is based on an antique key that i've had for years, it's currently on a chain (you can see it in this photo- bottom right) and means a lot to me. i'm actually working on it as my next tattoo design too!

the bag itself was mega easy to sew up, as is the beauty of a tote bag, and i also added a pocket to the inside as i hate searching for my phone at the bottom. i don't even know if people still use tote bags as much now?! i know they went through a hugely popular phase, but i think they're amazing for shopping/ lugging to work etc.

and there we have it. a simple, but much more personal tote bag.

gluten free peanut butter cookies

i posted a photo of these on instagram the other day, and had quite a few replies asking about them. i can't believe i've never posted this recipe before- i think i must have done back in the tumblr days and then forgotten about them.

this is my go to recipe when there isn't much in the cupboards. it only needs three ingredients and if you like peanut butter, then i'm pretty sure you will love these!

250g crunchy peanut butter
200g granulated sugar (although i usually use whatever i have around)
1 egg

preheat oven to 180c.
combine all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl and mix well.
place tablespoons of mixture onto a baking tray, and make sure to space them well apart.
bake for 15 minutes.

the ones above are actually just teaspoons of mixture instead of tablespoons- i was going for a "bite-sized" cookie this time around. if you want to try mini cookies, just bake them for around 8-10 minutes instead.

stripes and spots

jumper: h&m shirt: white stuff (mega old) cord trousers: h&m rings: antique & h&m necklace: juliana cassandro via not another bill

i can't quite believe it's been a week since i last posted, time is going ridiculously fast at the moment!

please excuse how tired i look in these photos, working full time is starting to get the better of me. i started back at my art club volunteer job this afternoon and it felt totally bizarre opening my wardrobe and not having to put my work uniform on. i think i've forgotten how to dress myself?! or at least enjoy everything i own.

this week has marked a few exciting events though as on tuesday we had a home visit from the rspca who have now approved us to have a cat. because it can only be an indoor cat it might be a while til we hear anything, but i'm so excited to have the ball rolling and i cannot wait to have a furry friend around me.

i also got around to photographing one of my new little ideas for the shop. unfortunately since getting the internet back i have seen other blogs and pinterest etc. being swarmed with similar ideas, so i'm not really sure what to do?! i know that there is no such thing as an original idea anymore, but i was really excited about them and i'm just not sure if anyone would be interested now.

anyway, i'll post about it next week and see what people think. i also have another little diy i've been working on as well as being so so close to finishing my crochet blanket.
i'm so excited to be getting creative again :)

jumpers: charity shop & fat face headscarf: lowie hat: the north circular

my go to jumpers from the last few weeks, is there a better feeling than being wrapped up and cozy in some pretty knitwear?

just a quick post today- a little celebration is in order as i am typing this from my laptop not my phone- hello internet!

i can't wait to be able to blog normally again, bur i think for now that an afternoon of blog reading is in order :)

snippets & a catch up

i thought i'd post a few instagram photos of the flat so far (follow me @skyepennant) seeing as i still don't have the internet to blog properly.
we're settling in pretty well now, though i'm starting to think that the decor needs toughening up a bit! i'm hoping to get some dark wood pieces in the bedroom which i think will work really well with what we already have.
it's very strange trying to furnish your home when it's not really yours.. if that makes any sense! i love the idea of being able to decorate a whole house of my own one day, but at least for now the new landlord will actually allow pictures to be hung on the wall.

i feel so out of touch with the online world at the moment, my bloglovin' feed is at a stupidly high level & i miss being able to comment back to people. thank you to everyone who has been commenting here, i will definitely be going on a huge replying binge once i'm back online.

things with the shop have taken a huge back seat at the moment due to the move and working full time. i've been trying to jot down ideas and plan some time to get making again, but it's a much slower process than i had anticipated. i'd rather all the new bits i have planned were done properly, but i promise to keep the blog updated with any news.

anyway, i think that's enough for one little post.
fingers crossed that next week i will have some proper posts to put up- i bought a pretty awesome jumper from a charity shop the other day that definitely deserves an outfit post!

p.s. i hope everyone is keeping wrapped up warm :)

not another bill

so here it is, my third and last (sob!) not another bill present.
this month, they have teamed up with iris hantverk, a swedish company who hand craft all of their pieces. every piece is so well designed and i absolutely love the aesthetic of the company. they also work closely with visually impaired people which makes the feel and look of their work even more special. the designs are seriously clever and simple- which i know i've said before is a brilliant combination.

i have to admit, when i opened it i thought "what am i going to do with this?" seeing as it's quite small and far too beautiful to get covered in dirt and crumbs. however, when i realised that it is the perfect size to use as a laptop/table dustpan and brush, i was so happy (i can't be the only one who eats cake next to their laptop?!).

although i'm chuffed to bits with this month's present, i am gutted that it's my last one. i've had 3 amazing and unique presents, and found out about three companies that i probably wouldn't have known about otherwise. as much as i'd love to keep subscribing, i just cannot afford it at the moment, but maybe in a year or two i'll be in a position to subscribe again.

if you can afford it, i would recommend not another bill 100%. i think they're hugely interesting and are tapping into a great niche in the market for creatives. having the subscription given to me as a present from j was also great- i'd definitely consider doing that for a friend. the excitement of seeing that little parcel each month never failed to make me smile, and the range of presents is so worth it.
