just a little post to say that things may be quiet around here for a few days.
i was meant to be uploading new cross stitch designs and some knitting, but things never quite go to plan do they?
after struggling with my breathing/asthma for a few weeks, wednesday became unbearable and i spent most of the night in a&e. i had bajillions of tests done after fears of a blood clot or an air bubble in my lung, but luckily, all the tests came back clear. the doctors now think that something environmental is causing the problems- ie. the new flat and possible damp so i have been put on steroids.
consequently, i look like a mole (does anyone else look like they have 2 black eyes when taking steroids?!)

i'm feeling pretty knocked off my feet, but hopefully lots of rest over the next few days will work wonders, and i'll be back very soon with far more interesting and creative updates!

jumper:camden market rings:h&m & hand-made nail varnish:eyeko vintage

i went to camden market for the day last week with my mum and sister; i had forgotten how much i love it there!
mum kindly bought me this jumper, it is now one of the most comfortable things i own, and the rabbit looks just like the white rabbit in the alice in wonderland book i had as a child :)

i finally bought some wool from work yesterday, i cannot wait to get knitting again (i'm thinking a nice chunky hat & maybe a snood).
i'm still unsure about whether to sell any of my knitwear as wool is so expensive and i don't know if i'd be able to make a profit from it. it's really hard because i'd love to do it, but when shops like h&m and primark are selling knitwear for under £5, i wonder if people would be willing to spend more for hand-made pieces? decisions decisions.
however, i have a few more cross stitch designs to post about and i'm constantly drawing up new ones so i'm sure they'll be up soon!

apple, cinnamon & raisin cake

i haven't posted up a recipe in what feels like forever.
actually, i think it's since moving house, but after making this amazing autumnal cake last night, i'm hoping to pick it up again.

2 cups finely diced apples (i peeled mine, but you can have them either way)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 vegetable oil (i used olive because i didn't have any vegetable..shh!)
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup flour (gluten free of course :p)

just to prove how long it's been since i posted a recipe, i forgot to take step-by-step photos, but it's really easy so this shouldn't matter.

preheat oven to 180c.
into a mixing bowl, add the diced apples and sugar and leave to stand for 15 minutes. they will caramelise together and look a little bit like apple sauce!

add the oil and egg and mix in.
add all of the dry ingredients and mix together.

pour into an 8" greased tin and bake for 45 minutes.

and voila! amazingly good cake that is perfect for the autumn evenings that are creeping in.
let me know if this recipe is actually coherent, and especially if you try it for yourself :)

a creature i don't know

the fangirl in me was very excited to get this cute tote bag with laura marling's new album (from hmv if anyone wanted to know!) and i intend to spend this whole weekend listening to the album on repeat.
yes really.

i won't ramble on about her anymore, but will leave with this beautifully poignant note, not written in one of her songs, but in the last line of her "thank-you's" inside the album sleeve <3
(am i the only one who reads those?)

"here's to love and logic, two creatures of unceasing cruelty, and endless joy".

i've loved me&zena ever since i discovered this mighty robot necklace, and then found found him in my stocking a few months later.
their pieces are so fun, and i love having jewellery that stands out. everyone always comments on this little guy, and if i wasn't so scared of losing his limbs, i think i'd wear it every day!
some of my other favourites include the "i see you" hexagon ring and the "take me down" anchor necklace. each piece seems to have so much detail- on the back of the robot is a little sign saying "made in the future":) n'awhh!

diana mini

just a few snaps that i had developed this week; from brighton pier and a day with my family.
i cannot explain how excited i get when i'm handed the envelopes- i went and sat on a bench in town with these and must have looked mad sat there grinning!
i also had a film a developed that j found when we were moving- he had no idea what it was from and turned out to be from our italy trip last year- it was so nice to get new memories from so long ago.
there are also a bunch from our last night out in epsom, which was the first proper outing with the diana flash- it is awesome!
but then, as far as i'm concerned, this little camera can do no wrong.

sorry for the blurry photo, but i just had to post my current nails.
unfortunately, i only did them last night and a day at work has destroyed them, but they were pretty darn cute whilst they lasted :)

top:my mums! skirt:charity shop belt:vintage necklaces:gift&hand-made

today is a total comfort type of day. the weather is bleak, and i'm exhausted from a busy few days, so i've been curled up cross stitching and watching harry potter.
i bought this skirt last week and re-hemmed it as it was a very odd length. i love the brown gingham though, it felt fitting for the first week back to school (even if i am supposed to be an adult now!)

yesterday i went for a meeting with a woman who runs an after school arts club, and am happy to say i will be starting as one of the volunteers next week :)
i'm pretty excited as i love working with kids, and i get to help them create art! sounds perfect.

here they are! my first two cross stitch designs for my future shop.
the designs are ridiculously biased towards my loves in life, but obviously i will be making tons more of a wider variety :)
i want to be able to sell these to people as customised as they want- from the colour of the thread, to sending me over images that can be translated into cross stitch.

i also want to create double sided hangings, (two is always better than one!) and i've got lots of thrifted and vintage fabric that i think will be perfect for the backs of them. these will change pretty regularly as i only have limited prints of each fabric, but again, you can leave it for me to choose, or choose for yourself depending on what i have.

SO, what do you think? firstly, do you like them? and secondly, is this customisation something that you like? or is it just a little but pointless?

i'd really love some feedback on all of these ideas- i can't wait to get more finished and up in the shop. next, it will be onto knitwear :)

september 1st

top:charity shop belt:no idea! jeans:topshop nail varnish:e.l.f desert haze

i posted about this top back in my tumblr days, and still love it to bits.
i think i put it on today as a slight protest to september and all this talk of autumn. don't get me wrong- autumn/winter are probably my favourite seasons, but somehow it just feels a bit too soon.

i know i mentioned that i've nearly finished a new cross stitch design- i'll hopefully be posting about it on monday. but in the mean time, i'd love some feedback on what kind of designs people want to see? would you prefer custom orders? please let me know, i can't wait to get my shop going properly :)
