all hallows eve

cardigan:charity shop top:matalan jeans:(ancient)topshop shoes:deena&ozzy rings&locket:gifts deathly hallows necklace:sawyer&scout

just a simple little pumpkin for my last halloween nails of the year; i looked everywhere for a pumpkin yesterday and they'd sold out, boo.

the cardigan is the one i posted about in my last post. i've shrunk it in the washing machine twice now, and i don't think it's getting any smaller- it was humungous before but i really love the fit now.
and the shoes...i love them. i never say that about shoes with heels. ever. but these are seriously comfortable. as in, i wasn't even aware of that fact that i was a few inches taller for most of the day. that is a bloomin' miracle i can tell you.

as a halloween treat, everything in the shop is now only £6!
don't forget to follow me on twitter to keep up to date on any shop offers :)

Saturday, 29 October 2011

things have been a little quiet here over the last week. what with cat sitting and having a cold that just won't budge for most of the week, i haven't been able to keep up with any projects.
i'm almost done with a scarf for j, which i'll post about when it's finished, and i just need to work out the thumbholes for the mittens i posted about on twitter.

just a random selection of photos- the shoes were a present that i will definitely posting about next week, i love them!
the cardigan i picked up at work- it is a mens extra large so i shrank it in the washing machine a few days ago- it's still a little oversized, but i don't want to end up with a baby cardigan so i think i will live with the extra room!
and the phone... well. i've been having trouble with my blackberry for weeks now, and after taking it in for repair twice, they finally told me yesterday that it is irreparable and would cost more to fix it than buy a new one! considering that i currently earn less money than my rent costs, i am now the proud owner of this £14.99 marvel. iphone 4s, eat your heart out. pffft.

p.s. don't forget, i've taken 10% off everything in the shop over the weekend, so head on over :)

halloween nails #2

another little step-by-step for some glittery cobweb nails, i got loads of comments on these at work!

what i used: e.l.f nail varnish in glitter glam, models own/wah nails pen in black & natural collection base coat.

i've been away for a few days looking after a friends flat & cat. it was so nice having a cat around again, even if she did moult like crazy.
i came home to find that i now have over 70 readers which is just amaze. i can't quite get my head around the idea that so many people read this blog, but i'm so chuffed :)
to celebrate, and to say thank you for all your lovely comments, i've taken 10% off of everything in the shop for the next few days, so take a peek!

halloween nails

so, it's now just over a week until halloween and i'm feeling pretty seasonal! i have hocus pocus and the nightmare before christmas ready to put on at any time, and i can't wait for some toasted pumpkin seeds- yum!

i mentioned trying some gradient style halloween themed nails, and have done a step-by-step below. i really hope it makes sense; with nail art i usually just make it up on the spot!
please let me know if you try these, i'd love to see how they turn out if you do :)

what i used:
natural collection base coat
rimmel tangerine queen
the body shop starry night
burts bees lip balm (i couldn't find my vaseline, but this worked just as well)
a small piece of sponge

first, apply your base coat and colour as normal.

next, using your finger or a cotton bud, rub vaseline on the skin around your nails. the sponge can create quite a bit of mess, and putting vaseline on first means that you should be able to wipe of any excess nail varnish pretty easily.

place a few drops of your chosen nail varnish onto a scrap of paper, and dab the sponge in.

i try to start off quite lightly, and then build it up with a few coats. i also try to keep it darker at the tips with a few more "scattered" drops towards the middle of the nail.

once you've done a few coats your fingers will probably look like this- a mess! but hopefully if the vaseline worked, you should be able to wipe the excess off with a cotton bud.

a little bit of cleaning, and voila! spooky and easy halloween nails.

p.s. thank you to everyone who commented about noah and the whale- they were bloomin' amazing!

noah and the whale

just a quick post as i'm off out tonight to see noah and the whale. it's been a long time coming, and i'm really bloody excited!
the cold is properly setting in now, and the layering has begun. i know i've already said it a few times, but i really adore this time of year :) i also finally started knitting some cabled fingerless gloves this morning. they're turning out super chunky so far, but i think that is a good thing?!
the mad nails will be replaced with halloween ones in the next week or so- a few people commented on the gradient nails asking for a tutorial, so i'll try and take some step-by-step snaps when i do them.

thought i'd give the gradient style nails a go, i really love how they've come out!
the black glitter nail varnish was from the body shop earlier this year, and the teal blue is from a stall on camden market. i usually forget to say where my nail varnishes are from, but if you want to know just leave a comment and i'll let you know!
i think i'm gonna try this with orange & black next week to get into the halloween spirit- i love all the amazing nail art that pops up around different occasions. if you're ever lacking inspiration, there are tons of places to look; i'm sure everyone knows about them, but one of my favourites is

moss stitch

snood:hand-made top:urban outfitters (about 5 years ago!)

every year, as soon as the weather turns colder, i get the knitting bug. bad.
i have 4 projects on the go at the moment and have just finished this moss stitch snood.
i am completely in love with the colour, and the wool is mega chunky and warm.
this is one of the designs that i'm planning on putting up in the shop- what do you think? it takes a pretty long time to knit up so there will only be 2/3 if i do. i'll keep the blog updated on their progress :)

strawberries & cream cupcakes

i know, i know, these aren't very autumnal. but during the crazy heat of last week, these seemed like the perfect dessert, and they went down so well!

125g self-raising flour
125g butter
125g sugar
2 eggs
pinch of salt
strawberry jam
double or whipped cream

makes 12 cupcakes.

preheat oven to 180c. cream the butter and sugar together.

add the flour, eggs and pinch of salt. mix well.

place tablespoon sized dollops into cupcake cases and bake for 15 minutes.
whilst they're baking, whip up the double cream and slice 6 strawberries for the toppings.

once the cupcakes have baked and cooled down, use a knife to carve out 2p sized pieces of the sponge as below.

fill the hole with a teaspoon of jam, and then replace the sponge 'lid'.

finally, place dollops of cream on top to cover up the lids, and top with a sliced strawberry.

yum. yum. yum.

p.s. "i am hand-made" is now live! my little shop can be found at

sawyer & scout

one of my favourite things about blogging/the internet is stumbling across other creatives and their work. elise has both an amazing blog and an online shop filled with beautiful jewellery, and as soon as i spied her deathly hallows inspired necklace, i knew i had to have it!
she always leaves me lovely comments, and as far as her shop goes- my order arrived in two days, cutely packaged and with a hand written note (the best kind!) the necklace is so well made, and the blue heart bracelet is perfect- it even fits my tiny wrists which is an achievement in itself!
if you haven't visited elise's blog or shop yet, please go and have a nosey!! you won't be disappointed :)

p.s. i've had a huge increase in readers over the last few days, which i think is down to the lovely michelle talking about the hogwarts crest that i sent her. so hello to all you lovely new people, and i hope you'll stick around :)

i am hand-made

i'm really excited to be writing this post, it finally feels like my little shop ideas are coming together, and i'm hoping to launch it very soon :)
i've decided to name the shop "i am hand-made" after my last ever uni project. it is still one of my favourite projects, and one that i feel reflects me the best.

for now, i will only be selling cross stitches, but eventually i'm hoping to have knitwear accessories and cards/prints. as i said before, i'm totally open to custom orders- just pop me an email and i can start drawing designs up.
for now, here are a few more designs that i've been working on... let me know what you think!

october 1st

top:charity shop shorts:diy

fully embracing the weather and my surroundings today with another one of my favourite ever charity shop buys.
i spent the day on the beach with lovely people; it was chaos down there! the last snap definitely has a "where's wally?" vibe don't you think?
